This two-story commercial office building is located in Coconut Grove, adjacent to the Underline on US-1. An exposed concrete structure, which is is juxtaposed with a wooden veil to control the sun and views from inside the building. The skeletal concrete frame lends a lightweight appearance, making the building feel as if it floats; while concrete sculptural shapes which lends a nod to the jungle and organic qualities of Coconut Grove. Outdoor space is integrated throughout each floor with X and X, providing cross ventilation numerous areas for the building’s users to engage in the tree canopy to the east. Through the use of sculptural shapes, the grid of the box is broken up in the form of stairs, rooms, and planters. The structure floats above the parking at grading, creating an opportunity for the parking to be hidden from view with a surrounding skirt of plants and sculptural walls.
