Nestled into the hillside overlooking the bay, this project includes a complete interior and exterior renovation of a cottage and guest house in the South Bar community on Harbour Island, Bahamas. Inspired by the surrounding natural elements, this “hut” is meant to feel like an escape next to the adjacent teal water. The original veranda will be enclosed, adding square footage and an outer deck to create more living space. By opening the exterior wall and adding shutters, it will allow for the house to be open or closed depending on the weather. The wood deck has been extended out from the house and down into the landscape, which will make the house appear to be lightweight and less imposing on the land. The use of wood shingles, plaster, wooden shutters, and exposed ceilings will immerse the user into their environment.
