The La Playa Residence recalls the history of old Coconut Grove. Located on a large lot hidden in the foliage of the landscape, the residence will feature three gardens. Two large gardens are bifurcated with a Florida room and a small breakfast garden. The slender building allows for the single-loaded rooms to invite light and breeze from both sides. On the interior of the home, exposed rafters reveal the structure of the home. To take advantage of the attic span, the design includes adding additional bedrooms tucked within large dormers windows that look out into the garden and tree canopy. Materiality within the residence will be inspired by the history of its location. Through the use of coral siding, worn shingles, ipe, tropical landscaping and a natural warm palette the user become will feel immersed in their surroundings.
